Sala Studio, Auckland Gift List

It’s the season of giving. Although we’re against unnecessary purchases and filling landfills with unwanted gifts, there is something truly special about showing a loved one you’re thinking of them with something locally produced. Sala founder Sarah gives us her dream Aotearoa gift list.

Abel Fragrance

For almost a decade, Abel has been on a quest to create the world’s best 100% natural perfume without compromising on ethics or aesthetics. They even have scents to support hormonal changes including Pause for Peripause and Nurture for Motherhood.

SLOW Store

Known for its Danish aesthetic that embodies style, form and sustainability, SLOW is your one-stop shop for ethical designer furniture and homewares. If anyone’s looking for gifts for me, I’ll take the whole Ferm Living Muses vase collection, please.

House Of March

Established to set a new standard for New Zealand bed linens, House of March questioned the conventional textile industry practices and created its own safe, chemical free and organic model. Premium beddings that come with full traceability from seed to sew ensure that products are made without nasty chemicals and toxins. Not only will you find the Percale on my own bed, but you can get 15% off using the code sala15.

Ashley & Co. x Asobimasu

You’ll find Ashley & Co products throughout the entire studio. I love this collaboration with Melbourne craftswoman Kate Brouwer from Asobimasu Clay. The handmade Limited Edition stoneware vessel is designed to be loved well after your iconic Tui & Kahili scent has melted away.

General Sleep

General Sleep creates beautiful, versatile, trans-seasonal sleep and loungewear that looks great, feels amazing, and encourages rest and pause. The Cumin Stripe is a personal fave and surely on everyone’s wish list.

Fine and Dandy

I love that you can buy the initial hard casing and then just top it up with tea refills to limit waste. All of the Fine and Dandy teas are certified organic and ethically produced, with each tea hand-selected, blended and packed by the founder Sarah. The Dark Rose blend is produced in collaboration with Fairtrade ANZ and Kokako, supporting the Neknasi Cascara project.

Jasmin Sparrow

Jasmin Sparrow uses sculptural metals which intersect classicism and modernist forms, created to be passed down through generations. Created for women who appreciate style with empathy, Jasmin works with ethically-sourced stones and recycled metals, producing environmentally conscious jewellery. Joshua bought me Necklace NO. 1 in gold for my first mothers day and I love that one day it’ll belong to Baby O.
